Thomas and I met on the beautiful island of Oahu, HI. I had visited the island to see if I would be up for relocation with my company, so I came out to the island for a week. Thomas is/was currently stationed on Oahu. We had met through a mutual friend that lived on island. After I had a rough day of traveling he wanted to meet even though I was exhausted and did not look the best I figured why not. After a few hours of drinking and nonstop laughter we ended up at the beach where we continued laughing and sharing our life and secrets. We both did not think it would go as well as it did. After we both got off work every day we ended up meeting and going to be beach staying out much longer than we had expected. Soon it was my time to catch my flight, and one of my coworkers who had traveled with me ended up putting me in a very bad mood. I tried to shake off the emotion since it was my last day with Thom, but I was unable to. I regret the way that I said goodbye and I still am not living it down a year later. I said goodbye to Thom with a side hug and got into the car with my coworker, and headed back to the hotel to grab my things to leave. At that time Thom thought that that was it, everything was over. On my flight back I was beating myself for the way I left. I could not wait to land to talk to tell him and tell him my decision about relocating. When I landed he was the first person I called and told him I was going to take the job (although it was mainly for him). A month later and I was in Hawaii, this was going to be the start to a fun adventure so I thought. When I flew out Thom had just had an extensive surgery and I was again living in a hotel until I could find a place to stay. After finally getting settled in to a new place and Thom on his way to recovery I was informed by my company that they needed me on a different island for a few weeks to help out a location there. A few weeks turned into four months. Finally in the beginning months of December I was able to return to Oahu and spend the Holiday with the only person I wanted to be with. Finally in March it was time for him to buy an engagement ring, which was difficult since I manage A Zale’s and communicate regularly with the ones on island. So we settled for designing the ring together, but once he got the finished piece he did not put it on my finger right away. Instead he kept it a waiting game driving me crazy. Anytime he had anything planned or reached into his pocket I would get so excited. Finally he had planned a fun date night and I thought to myself “This is it! This is the night!” I spent extra time doing my hair, make up, and picking my outfit. By the end of our fun night he still had not proposed! I was a little upset, but I know he always has something up his sleeves. Finally the day came, the next morning. He is always getting up before the sun due to work, but me I like to sleep. I woke up to him trying to by sly and gentle putting the ring on my finger. I thought I was dreaming! He knew I do not like attention and did not want him to do it in some extravagant way, and to me this way meant so much more.
Thomas and I cannot wait to start our journey together. Although we would love to jet away on our honeymoon right away our work schedules do not allow it. We are going to take a three day weekend and spend it exploring the island of Maui a few months after we wed. But for our main honeymoon we will be going to Germany and Italy to visit friends and family that are not able to attend our wedding.
We are so truly honored to have been apart of their special day .
